Community Events

The Arizona FilAM Fiesta is a community event held in Phoenix, Arizona to celebrate Filipino American History Month. The event will bring together local residents for food, performances, and fun activities. Medical students from our APAMSA chapter will be tabling at this event to connect with the local AANHPI community and offer them free basic health screenings including blood pressure, blood glucose, and HbA1c under faculty supervision. HbA1c tests will be given on a more selective as-needed basis based on factors such as medical history and fasting status. Educational resources regarding common chronic diseases within the AANHPI population will also be provided such as hypertension, diabetes, and hepatitis B. This event allows us to meet individuals outside of a clinic setting, potentially catching those who have not seen a healthcare provider in a long time and/or have difficulties navigating the healthcare system due to linguistic and financial barriers.
